Till The End

On nights like this one,
We used to lie down on the grass
And count the little bells of light hanging up there in the night sky.
Pillow for me. Arms for her.
She would close her eyes and pretend to fall asleep.
And As if the world’s falling apart, she would hold me close to her heart. My little doll.

On nights like this one,
We used to lie down on the grass
And I would stroke her hairs.
Her strands would try to get hold of my gaze.
Alas, her deep, bright, smiling eyes would permit me to do nothing but drown in their swirling whirlpools of ever blazing embers. Too bright. Too light. My little doll.

Along with our childhood longing
Of seeing a star fall
And make a wish of remaining together,
Together- forever and always,
We still lie down on the ground.
The longing is still in vain.
But, oh beloved,
As we both lie down on the ground
And fall asleep,
Breathing each others air,
The sun rises
Wishing for our love
To resemble its for the earth-
“Till the end.”
